Nutritional child-friendly burgers :)

Tony discovering his inner child
Today was declared a public holiday in South Africa, set aside for the purpose of voting for our provincial government and ward councilors.

So, voting - ticked :)

For a reward we went to Oude Molen for a shake and a play on the tree house.  I was going to say for the children but Tony had just as much fun on the swing than our boys :)  Keeps him young and out of trouble.

Unfortunately we missed the restaurant by seconds as they closed at 13h00 for voting day.  But we still had a play!

We then went to Wimpy for the shakes and seeing the burgers, we decided to have proper, yummy home-made burgers for supper.

But who can't make a burger?  Pretty easy I would say.  You can make it as delicious as you choose your toppings.  Our toppings were:  Lettuce, thick good quality beef burger patty, cheddar cheese, tomato, gherkin, topped with yummylicious Steers Rave sauce.  And what would a burger be without some french fries on the side.

The tricky part to the equation comes to serving it to a child who does not eat lettuce, tomatoes or gherkins (all the good stuff, right?).  Okay, the gherkins I can live without but to get some nutrition into his little busy body I do the following:

Chop two tomatoes and cook until soft - you can add herbs for extra flavour but I like to keep it simple as to not give away it's nutritional value :).  I then add about two tablespoons of All Gold tomato sauce and cook it a little bit more until the sauce thickens.  Then add about two leaves of lettuce to this and blend with a blender.  And voila!  Spread it on the bun, add the patty and the cheese and there they have their veggies :)

What did we do before blenders?

The result?  Jethro ate his burger with a smile on his face and ended it with: "Thank you Mommy for the yummy supper!"

SUCCESS!!
